  Approximately 120 years before the Day of Embers, a dragon first appeared in Ærethia through a magical portal.

  Shorty after, hundreds followed it and began invading the human kingdoms.

  The lands in what is now known as Alathel, the kingdoms fell and humans were nearly all wiped from the continent. There are rumors that some sapient species were made completely extinct though no record has been found to back this up.

  As the Dragons made their way toward Asiel, another group of creatures appeared through portals in those lands called Coji.

  The war raged on for over a century and despite the help from the Coji, it looked liked the Dragons would win. Humanity was now backed up against the Gloomspires and preparing for a last ditch effort to survive.

  Backed into a corner, magic users in humanity's ranks researched the most powerful and ellusive magics they could find. Tapping into these powers, they unleashed everything on the Dragons. The world north of the Gloomspires was cleansed of nearly all life for over one hundred miles and the magical weave was devastated. In addition to this, the ties between Ærethia and all other interdeminsional planes was severed. This date has become known as The Day of Embers and is the basis for the years of the current calendar.

  With the Dragons nearly wiped out, the Coji lead a campaign to destroy the remaining pockets. This took a decade but was successful.

  The Coji that were on Ærethia were war parties and not large enough numbers for them to maintain a population. Having been cut off from their home worlds, they decided the best thing to do was to let their numbers die out. In 198, the last Coji passed away of old age.

  The Cloud Elf kingdoms grew to be the largest in the world. Most other species have had either no desire to expand so much or were unable to do so due to in fighting.
